Tifton Aluminum

Chronic Leakage

Size: 400,000 ft²
Roof: Built –Up Membrane

Challenge: The Alcoa Aluminum plant in Tifton, Georgia had roof leaks for years - not unusual for a 50 year old industrial plant with lots of foot traffic and roof penetrations. The 25 year old BUR (Built Up Roofing) System had been patched and re-saturated many times with predictable results – new leaks every year. The last roofer to patch the roof failed to respond, leaving the facility manager with a leaky roof and no way to repair it -short of paying a new contractor to come in and start all over again.

Solution: Based on Alcoa’s previous experience with RoofChek the Tifton facility manager called us in to evaluate his situation, We determined that continuing with piecemeal, band aid fixes was no longer an option. A detailed analysis of the existing BUR felts at an independent lab confirmed our initial conclusion that the roof needed to be replaced. Understanding that the facility had extensive rooftop equipment requiring regular maintenance, RoofChek’s in house designers specified a high performance Sentry® Modified Bitumen insulated roofing system that could withstand extensive foot traffic. RoofChek provided a turn key solution by managing the entire process from initial investigation to the successful completion of the project. RoofChek is uniquely capable of being able to provide a broad range of services including, detailed roof analysis material specification and procurement, contractor selection, code compliance documentation and on site Quality Assurance through to final inspections and issuance of warranties.
